Oh my word. I must say if your life is dull, boring, lifeless, lonely and averagely meh. Please try roller derby. seriously best.day.ever.today. Tad star struck. Started the day with a makeup session with an amazing artist, followed by an awesome fun photo shoot with none other than NZ's top model Danielle Hayes. Who has recently moved back to K-town and our chairperson is her friend. sccchhweeet. She has taken up photography as a hobby so bonus for us. I must admit I was rather nervous as I dont like photos at the best of times and I have a missing tooth like a pirate, but hell I worked that shit. busted out my angry but confused face. winner. We had the amazing pleasure of having the infamous Fia Fasi Oe? join us for the shoot and then took us for a killer training. I was a tad star struck when we were painting our nails together, eeeeee. ha another amazing thing about derby is you can get your makeup/war paint on plus your pretty and your hot or glam outfit on and then bust a mean sweat in some hardcore training. What other sports can you wear makeup and awesome clothes? not many, if any (chur scribe)
Not ever being a sporty person (apart from netball, which I gave up when I started drinking, early Saturday mornings in the cold with a hangover, er no thanks) I never got into exercise. So many times I thought I "should get fit" I really "should do something" Im a sucker for at home dvds but quickly realised I do them once and then meh. When I discovered I could actually still skate, I have never looked back. The feeling of being on roller skates is indescribable. I could try describe it but I just said it was indescribable so there. I used to love skating as a little-un and this feeling came back to me. immediately. I went eeeeeeeeeee inside. And perhaps outloud a bit too.
Once I got into training I thought "shit this is a good work out" "Im going to get fit from this" and "dam Im going to get some mean thighs and butt from this" Exercise was the by-product of the fun. But the more I do it, the more I realise I know want to get fit FOR derby. I have never willingly had the drive or desire to push myself physically. At training I start sweating straight away and continue to do so for 2 whole hours. And I freaken love it! Sweat drip, drip, dripping on the floor. The power and strength in my mind I feel too is so amazing. Derby is good for you, mentally and emotionally, socially and physically. If I go to training with a gripe about whatever or something weighing heavily on my mind, it is impossible to keep thinking about it. As Bonni D Stroir says "skate it out" bad day at work "skate it out" boyfriend trouble "skate it out", there is no room in my head for anything at training, except training. word. love. and derby.
My buddy AMPER and I after our makeup session. I did her hair by the
way. a little bit pleased with it too. Derby brings you closer to
people. she rules! seeing her grow in confidence is astounding. love it!
My sweet new socks for the shoot. My sock collection is getting a little crazy. long may it continue
I know I promised hot/hilarious photos, these arent them. I will get the pro shots soon! yahoo.
Exhausted now. Time for sleep. Derby also makes you so high with happiness you don't want to go to sleep even though you are wasted from training. But when you do finally crash, oh boy, derby makes you sleep!
One day, when the babe doesn't need the boob all hours I too shall skate! I look forward to it. Chur Scribe...Giggled.
