So.....I havent written a post for a while. But feeling rather lonely in my house, yes it gets like that when my daughter is away and the son is asleep. In fact it gets like this often. Its an odd thing going from flatting/sharing a house/having a social life, to a partnership (pfffft) and family dwelling (again pffft) only cause my previous relationship was neither of these things in hindsight. It would seem we were only 'playing house'. But I digress. In my lonely 'woah is me' state I decided to write about the reason for this....
DERBY
Oh my gosh there I said it. My first derby downer.
WRDL had our first scrimmage last night over with Mount Militia who are experienced players. Scrimmage is where you play a bout. Just as you would a real game but its at a practice. I kind of thought I was progressing nicely. yeah I can do 25 in 4.48 (best record yet for me) can do the drills confidently, can give it my all and nail it, can try new things and most of the time successfully, I feel usually so confident, I can coach freshies on basics, but, oh but, scrimmage was unlike anything I expected.
It sure knocked me down a peg (and on the floor) it was humbling and a very sore reality check for me and most of us. JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN SKATE DOESN'T MEAN YOU CAN PLAY DERBY. For real. On the track as a blocker, I was so confused! I kept getting left behind my pack and then by the time Id race to reach them they would move. I would try to spin around to find my pack and end up counter blocking an opponent. I did get to jam though and that was a buzz. I didn't want to do it but then had the most awesome blocker who cleared paths for me so only took one big hit, which I hit back and we both fell over. baha.
Anyway I have thought obsessively about it since 24 hours ago mostly about what I did wrong, which in my mind is everything, except for my jam, and kept thinking how it was just chaos and I was out of my depth. But now I have had my mope but am very aware of the hardwork and many many aching bones I have ahead of me. Training tomorrow and yes there will be scrimmage. And yes I will go back to the Mount again for scrimmage. I'm determined to nail it. I wont give up. Derby has given me so much and I am going to give back all I have got and then some. grrrrrr.

OH SWEET JEBUS
Well yesterday was my birthday and this is kind of what it started like....cleaning...what the? on my birthday. I hardly clean so why on my birthday, F knows. must be the Virgo coming out hard. so yes it kind of looked like this
Washing......booo booooring. but necessary.
so boring I took 2 photos!???
eep my new garden...
airing out the gear. pooweeeee
Our logo which I am obsessed with. Its everywhere, on my phone, my screen saver, my lounge (framed) and of course my car. on each side.
Pink Moustache's off for a birthday pedicure. yuss.
I cant even be bothered talking about getting old, what I did, think, feel etc etc, which usually runs through my mind because of this.....!!!!!!! OH HOLY SMOKES BATMAN, wait for it, wait for it.............
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep
WORD
Pimped out speakers...for real
This end is just asking for our logo bombed on it. hard. WRDL bomb hard.
waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwoooooooooooooooo.
OH MY OH MY
I cant even begin to describe the fabulousness of finding this. On my birthday no less!
Went out to lunch with my buddy Amanda and she was bursting red with excitement. A freshie and acquaintance of hers, Dave, had rung her to say he got permission from the owner of this old Countdown building, for us to skate it. to use it, whenever we wanted!
So after delcious curry and beer, we hooned there all amped up not knowing what would await us, we were meeting a man in a carpark about a warehouse in Kope. Dodgey and we loved it.
I was expecting a dump with cracks or lino or whatever hideous other abandoned warehouse scenarios. But upon entering we found it was polished concrete and had hardly any crap on the floor! my heart was leaping out of my chest. I have never skated polished concrete before so was thinking eeek will you be just as slippery as our current floor? I COULD NOT GET MY GEAR ON FAST ENOUGH.
HOLY SMOKES BATMAN. It was amazing. Apart from the glass and woodchips and bolts on the floor. which caused me to eat shit numerous times. IT WAS AMAZING. no slip just pure joy, I could just cross and cross and cross. Normally in our hall its a tad frightening crossing over at speed as its so slidey.
After a quick sweep around it was even better.
So excitement ensues we ring our Chairwomen and she is bursting. She has plans to start up a roller rink and sort some kind of deal with the guy for either super cheap lease or to let us run it as a roller rink! haha madness! the possibilities are endless and freaken exciting.
Its been sitting there for so long, and has had 2 fallen through plans for shopping malls and another supermarket. But like we need any more shops?! we need a rink! how rad for the Whakatane community. And how rad for WRDL! gaaaaaaaaaaaaa anyway big ideas and schemes but in the meantime we get to skate it for FREE. I have always been wanting more than 2 trainings a week but because we cant afford the hall hire its not possible, but now free skate!
We will need to remove many many multitudes of hazards. (there is even a creepy meat room) wood lying around and stacked up, glass, and all other forms of hazards but there is so much potential it blows my wee mind. There are separate rooms which have open fronts so people could sit in there but not be on the track but still be able to see. Perfect for our kids that come along to training. We can still see them! Plus the pillars need some serious padding up you could cut your face open on them, they have these weird wood corners. needs to be derby proof.
buzz buzz buzzz out!
So we are heading there today, we are allowed to get the key (from the owners bar) anytime we want. We will do a big sweep out and then roll out. hooooolllly!
Anyway breathe B.Addy breathe.
So the day before my birthday looked like this...
My 10 year old bought home flowers! so sweet he is really growing up!
And then ended kind of like this
He spent half his money on these! so lovely, we gorged them all down, along with pizza and coke.
34 I'm going to kick your ass!

well well its been a while. I have to admit I had a slight lack of motivation and hit a derby speed bump. I felt unmotivated to go to training, I was very hungover, and then very sick for 2 weeks and then very hungover again and felt I was not progressing and my stupid injury was still not fully better and this was frustrating me, like stopping me from using my leg to its full potential, weak, weak grrrrr.
Previously I would have just gone and "skated it out" and all was well again. But I began to feel low and unmotivated and this scared me that the one thing in my life that gave me so much wasn't doing it for me. I think it was to do with a few personal issues/thoughts I had putting me off. Which in hindsight is stupid. But I can get things in my head and mull and stew over them.
But I found this quote the other day which resonated with me:
"The sport is the sport. It's neutral. There's skills to improve on, you get better at them. There's strategies to work out, you get used to them. It's the relationships with people, and yourself, that make or break you" Bonnie D Stroir.
This women is amazing you can check her out here http://bonniedstroir.blogspot.co.nz/2012_09_01_archive.html
And when you finally are able to start your roller derby adventure/lifestyle/addiction, when you are feeling low or high or just plain challenged or you cant go for a skate cause its night time and want to read about and watch skating, look her up! she will guide you....like an attractively strong, impressive Yoda on skates.
So yes its the relationships with people and YOURSELF that make or break you. My relationship with myself is an interesting one. One that is sometimes filled with self pity, loathing, overeating, crying and moping. Then at other times gleeful, amping, laughing, clowning around and gratitude and sheer power of self.
The relationships with others is one that in my life has been fraught with allsorts too, nom nom. But I am learning to close my mouth, and wait before I say anything, to learn to let people process as they need to process, and to allow for their own ways of dealing with and showing their opinions and emotions. I have noticed this twice on 2 major things in our league where I have been able to give my opinion strongly, but have then been able to let it go and realise I don't have to have the say in the decision for it to be a good one to trust others and the process. And with success it worked out without me having to get all grrrrrrr. So much learning in derby.
So on the up.....I had the awesome experience of coaching our team. Our coach was going to be away so I volunteered. Not sure why I piped up, as I had previously been meh about helping with coaching our new intake. Im a little bit on the "you got to know everything yourself before you try telling others what to do" or "you cant have the awesome Antik skates when you are a freshie" or "you got to earn a derby name before you can have one" type of stickler person. Which usually only ends up doing me in cause someone else with the "I dont give a shit, woop woop" attitude will end up with the awesome Antiks and Ill just be jealous. So Im learning to not be so "too cool for school" too cause really I am the only one who misses out.
Anywhoo so got asked to coach again last night and decided to work those laydees and gent hard! Was awesome seeing them shooting me daggers and rolling their eyes at the hard or boring tedious drills hehehe. I think if I can do it, hell they can! being the unfit, giverupery type.
So great experience, lifted my spirits and B.ADDY is back. boom
Oooh also Houston we have website....shame ow......haha kidding WORD ILL! WRDL

well as I type, I can smell sulphur outside. I poked me nose out and yes, its smells like Rotorua. Living so close to a volcano freaks me out. White Island erupted yesterday and although we have had no effects it is scary smelling it.
I spend so much of my life whinging and bitching about how I'm bored, lonely, tired, hungry, feedup, broke, (not so much since I started derby!) but I still do a lot of complaining and stressing about trivial things. But when it comes down to it. My life is good. And mother nature owns. So I better get about appreciating every single day and the people in it!
So here are some things in my life, that make me happy and that I love love love....
